Emerald Jett is a sci-fi funk musical about the trials and tribulations of a 34-year-old Black Seattlite. As if navigating her way through the world in her Black Queer body wasn’t enough, Emerald soon discovers that she is in fact an alien from another planet with a superpower that she might lose unless she makes some much-needed changes in her life.
In this take on a coming of age and stepping into power story, Emerald learns that although we are all on the hunt for life's true purpose, it is in her genetic coding to actively change her life's goals or face dire ramifications. Book & music written by Catherine Harris-White (SassyBlack).
Current State of Production
In 2020, Emerald Jett was selected by the 5th Avenue Theatre for it’s First Draft program and I was commissioned to create just that, the first draft of the script. We had a reading in Seattle & a workshop and small WIP performance in LA in 2022 (seen below). I am now in the next phases of revision, fundraising and planning another
stripped down reading in 2024.
